1. Cách dùng Unlike
Unlike là 1 giới từ, theo sau là noun (mang nghĩa KHÔNG GIỐNG NHƯ)
Xét ví dụ:
- She was a small, dainty child, unlike her sister who was large and had big feet.
- Man's ability to talk makes him unlike any other animal.
- I really enjoyed the film - it was unlike anything I'd seen before.
- Tom's a rather shy child, unlike his younger brother!
- The village fete went well, unlike the previous year when very few people came.
- It's unlike you to be quiet - is something wrong?
2. Cách dùng Unlikely
Unlikely cách dùng giống như LIKELY thường trong cụm IT IS UNLIKELY THAT mang nghĩa là KHÔNG THỂ NÀO
Xét ví dụ:
- It's pretty unlikely (that) they'll turn up now - it's nearly ten o'clock.
- The lack of evidence means that the case is unlikely to go to court.
- The government is unlikely to agree to the rebels' demands for independence.
- Such unpopular legislation is unlikely to be introduced before the next election.
- Let's face it, our team is most unlikely to win.
- This film is unlikely to attract large audiences unless it is given a big push in the media.
3. Cách dùng Alike
Alike là tính từ thường đi với look alike, mang nghĩa TRÔNG GIỐNG NHƯ
Xét ví dụ:
- The twins look alike, but they differ in temperament.
- The film's message is that rich and poor are alike.
- As babies, the twins were so alike that I just couldn't tell them apart.
- For the first few months the babies looked so alike I couldn't tell which was which.
- Our views on politics are very alike.
4. Cách dùng Like
- Like đang xét như 1 giới từ và liên từ, mang nghĩa GIỐNG NHƯ
- Sự khác nhau giữa Like và Alike là Like sẽ đi với 1 noun còn alike thì không
- Like dùng như 1 liên từ thường gặp ở câu: Like I said before,
Xét ví dụ:
- He looks like his brother.
- She's very much like her mother (= she is similar in appearance or character).
- Is Japanese food like Chinese?
- I've got a sweater just like that.
- Her hair was so soft it was like silk.
- You're acting like a complete idiot!
- She sings like an angel!
- Like I said (= as I have already said), I don't wear perfume.
- Like most people (= as most people would), I'd prefer to have enough money not to work.
- It feels/seems like (= it seems to me) ages since we last spoke.
- There's nothing like a good cup of coffee (= it's better than anything)!
